Outstanding 19th Century Painters (Part II)

In the first part of this article on prominent 19th century painters, we told you the biography and most outstanding works of some painters such as: Luis Menéndez Pidal or Adolfo Giráldez Peñalver.

In this second installment, we will meet other very influential authors in the 19th century paintings. These painters are: Andrés Cortés y Aguilar, José Flores Vela, José Moreno Carbonero and José Villegas Cordero.

Andrés Cortés and Aguilar

Sevillian painter born on December 24, 1812, known by the nickname "the painter of the Seville Fair" that the critic Antonio Manuel Campoy gave him. He was a very versatile author although he made numerous landscape works, both interior and exterior of a strong traditional character in the Andalusian region.

Between the most outstanding works of Andrés Cortés y Aguilar we can find its courtyards of the Real Alcazar and the Alhambra of Granada.

José Flores Candle

Author mainly scenographer born in Valencia in the year 1816. His vocation for scenographic painting came from family since he was stepbrother of the stage painter José Vicente Pérez Vela, cousin of the stage designer Vicente Flores Bordó and uncle of José Campo, the Marquis de Campo.

He made many scenographic works, among which we can highlight: the palaces of the Count of Alcudia, the Marquis de Dos Aguas and the Marquis de Campo.

Jose Moreno Carbonero

Malaga painter who was born on March 28, 1860. Many critics consider him one of the great 19th century painters of historical subjects.

José Moreno Carbonero's paintings They were very awarded, and received awards such as the gold medal at the Malaga Exhibition. He completed his training traveling through several European cities such as Paris or Rome and among his works we can highlight: The Prince of Viana ”,“ The conversion of the Duke of Gandia ”and“ Roger de Flor's entrance in Constantinople ”.

Jose Villegas Cordero

Sevillian painter of costumbrista character who was born on August 6, 1844 and completed his training at the Santa Isabel School of Fine Arts in Seville, where he studied directed by Eduardo Cano.

He held positions of great responsibility as the Director of the Spanish Academy of Fine Arts in Rome in 1898 and Director of the Prado Museum in 1901.

The work of José Villegas Cordero It is exhibited in numerous museums such as: Prado Museum, the Museum of Fine Arts in Seville, L'Hermitage in St. Petersburg and the Fine Arts in Buenos Aires.
