At auction a jewel that belonged to the ancestors of the Spanish Royal House

jewel

In June of this year a major jewelry auction which included a tiara that belonged to the grandmother of King Emeritus Juan Carlos I, Luisa de Orleans princess of Bourbon-Dos Sicilias.

The tiara is an amazing headband that follows the aesthetics of the headbands that the famous Garrard jewelry made for the British Royal House.

The story of this piece is very curious, since, although the natural heiress was the mother of King Juan Carlos, Mrs. Maria de las Mercedes, the jewel happened directly to belong to María de la Esperanza.

María de la Esperanza de Borbón y Orleans, is the second daughter of Luisa de Orleans, and married Pedro de Orléans-Braganza, pretender to the crown in Brazil. He drew a lot of attention on the day of the wedding of King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia, since he wore the tiara and monopolized the attention of all the guests.

After the death of María de la Esperanza, the headband passed to her daughter Gloria de Orleans-Braganza, princess of Yugoslavia and Duchess of Segorbe. Who sold it in 1982 at a jewelry auction, the quantity and the buyer are unknown in this case.

Several decades later, the jewel is again on sale for a minimum price of 200.000 pounds (€ 227.398), and the big question is if the Casa Real will try again to recover jewelry from their ancestors, as King Juan Carlos would do in other cases such as with: the jewel called 'Cartier', diadem of diamonds and pearls. And another known as the 'Russian', also a diadem with diamonds and pearls.
